A CTLE delegation of 5 attended the EdTechXAsia 2017 Summit in Singapore (31 October – 1 November). Participants at the summit were introduced to many different forms of edtech. The highlights from the EdTechXAsia 2017 Summit, where innovative educators and influencers shared their insights on 21st century learning and skills, included presentations on 100 of the most inspiring global innovations in K12 education, top edtech trends in Singapore, and lessons from the learning sciences.
A major theme from the presentation of actual examples of innovative edtech was personalized learning. In Singapore, China and Hong Kong, scaling up personalized learning was made possible by automated bots or online tutors. However, educators and companies claimed that more big data may be needed to make those systems more effective.
Innovative educators at the summit remarked that edtech is not solely about technology. Rather, it is about fundamentally changing the way students learn with technology. Moreover, to implement personalized learning and experiential learning approaches requires that teachers be equipped with appropriate edtech tools and a growth mindset.
