On 7th of March, 2018 over 35 academic and administrative staff participated in CTLE’s workshop, “Academic Culture As Content: Self-Assessment in a CLIL Classroom”.

In this workshop, Prof. Chris Hale shared with us self-assessment as a possible solution to engage student in their own learning. In addition to student autonomy, agency, and metacognitive awareness of learning, it is a way to encourage critical thinking and responsibility – two major tenets of Active Learning, and traits that will serve students well in their lives after graduation. This presentation aimed to conceptualize the effectiveness of self-assessment within the greater context of the English medium liberal arts university in East Asia, and presented a practical approach to student assessment by examining data from CLIL-based classrooms.
