Abstract:

In this workshop, the speaker will share with colleagues what he has learnt from his daughter and how such lessons can be applied into improving his teaching. In particular, the workshop will focus on project-oriented teaching that helps stimulate students’ motivation for critical thinking. There will be opportunities for discussion and interaction with the speaker on project-based teaching and learning.

Bio:

Dr. Hui Pan is an associate professor in the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering at the University of Macau. He got his PhD degree in Physics from the National University of Singapore in 2006. From 2008 to 2013, he had worked at National University of Singapore as Research Fellow, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (USA) as Postdoctoral Fellow, and Institute of High Performance Computing (Singapore) as Senior Scientist. He joined the University of Macau as an assistant professor in 2013. In his research, a combined computational and experimental method is used to design and fabricate novel nanomaterials for applications in energy conversion and storage (such as solar cells, water-splitting, Li batteries, supercapacitors, hydrogen storage, and fuel cells), electromagnetic interference (EMI), electronic devices, spintronics, and quantum devices.
