Why Innovations and Which Methods to Use?—-Finding the Innovated Methods for My Classes Prof. Tianshu ZHU (FSS)

Why do we need innovations for our teachings? And among so many innovated new pedagogical methods, what methods to choose for our classes? In this presentation, I will talk about the innovations I did in my classes in answering these questions. Although I teach a very particular field which is very different from others, hopefully these questions can be relevant to general audients.

Varied Excellences: Reflections on Teaching in a Technological World Prof. Man Yin CHIU (FAH)

One of the most important elements in teaching is engagement. Teaching material that is interesting and engaging is more effective. In this talk I will share an in-class activity that has worked quite well for me. Together we will engage with a short poem in English and try to work out its meaning.

Project-Based Teaching to Stimulate Students’ Passion on Learning Prof. Hui PAN (IAPME)

In my talk, a brief introduction of project-oriented teaching/learning will be given. It is believed that the learning should be focused around four main areas: critical thinking, teamwork, practical application, and positive attitude, which can be achieved through project-oriented teaching.

Catching Students’ Attention in the Digital Era Prof. Matthew LIU (FBA)

How long can you reasonably expect your students to pay attention during your lessons? Some psychologists claim the typical student’s attention span is about 10 to 15 minutes long, yet most university classes last 50 to 90 minutes. Teaching can be tough, but there a few easy and simple tricks that will grab your students attention.
